3 day awareness workshop on Kathak starts in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Sept 1: A three day workshop on Kathak was today organised by the Institute of Music and Fine Arts( IMFA) here at Himalayan College of Education Rajouri.
The workshop was inaugurated by the District Development Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan who was the chief guest at the event.
DDC Member Darhal, Iqbal Malik; President MC Rajouri, Mohammad Arief; Founder and Patron of HEM society, Farooq Musdar; HOD Fine Arts and Music, Dr Priya Dutta; DSEO, Bilal Rashid Mir besides prominent citizens including Ex-Chairman Pahari Advisory board, Kuldeep Raj Gupta; Subash Chander (retired KAS); Rajinder Gupta; Pushpinder Gupta; Yogesh Sharma; Sushil Sharma; Yousif Lone and others, students; faculty members of the HEM College and Institute of music and fine arts were present at the awareness workshop. The Artists of the Music and Fine Arts also presented a musical and dance performance based on Kathak form which was highly appreciated by the audience present on the occasion under huge applause. The artists were also felicitated with mementoes for scintillating performance at the event.
Interacting with the participants, the Deputy Commissioner said that a series of events have been planned to showcase the culture and tourism potential of the district. He said that Rajouri is an epitome of cultural harmony and many people of this Peer Panjal region have shown their caliber at the National and International levels. "A grand cultural festival was organised at the District Headquarter last month wherein the artists from the adjoining states and districts participated and was highly appreciated by the local public", he informed.
He said that a border mela will also be organised this month and rural festivals will be celebrated in association with the civil society, tourism department and NGOs to promote the culture and tourism of the area. He said that the need of the hour is to promote Indian classical dance and popularise them among the young generation to enable them to understand the country's heritage.
He also threw light on several initiatives being taken by the District Administration for the public welfare.
