Early Times Report

Anantnag, Oct 2: In a shocking revelation, a Non-Government Organization (NGO) based in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has allegedly siphoned off funds which it received from Delhi based semi-government company during COVID-19 pandemic. The NGO named ‘The Human Race’, has ostensibly shared the money with the company's independent director, who is a Kashmiri and affiliated with BJP.
As per reports, last year, the Human Race NGO received around Rs 25 lakh from Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMC). The company funded the local NGO to create awareness cum sensitization on women hygiene, health and nutrition. The company on its website remcltd.com claims to have distributed sanitary kits containing napkins, hand sanitizers, hand wash, masks, soaps and other items.
However, back in Kashmir the NGO has spent very little and allegedly shared the money with the company's independent director Sheela Koul.
The financial transactions between the NGO and the Sheela Koul’s husband reveal shocking details. The NGO has around Rs 5 lakhs transferred into the personal account (08***40100001*675) of her husband from 3rd March to 29th of March.
In addition to this another NGO based in Kulgam has also paid around Rs 3 lakhs to this BJP leader.
Sheela Koul, who was appointed as Independent Director in 2019, refuted the allegations, however said that the money transferred in her husband’s account was meant for programs to be conducted in Jammu. “If anyone has any intention to grab the money why would he prefer bank to bank transaction,” she said.
Admitting that the ‘The Human Race’ named NGO received financial support from the RECM ltd, Mrs Koul said that the NGO organized several programs in Jammu and Kashmir. Asif Iqbal Mir, who heads ‘The Human Race’, however refused to comment on this issue. “We haven’t transferred any amount to anyone. I wouldn’t like to comment on this issue on the phone,” he said. The RECM limited is a joint venture company of Indian Railways and is supporting local NGOs under its CRS program.
