IIPA organizes capacity building program on integrated sanitation, waste management | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 31: Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch in partnership with Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad organized a one-day online capacity building program on "Integrated Sanitation and Waste Management". The programme was held to provide understanding of the components covered under the SBM 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0. The program covered regulatory, technological, financial, operational, and behavioral aspects involved in bringing wide scale improvements in Faecal Sludge and Septage Management; Solid Waste Management & plastic waste management and Used (waste) water management. Avny Lavasa, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and CEO, Jammu Smart City said that a combined strategy of creating awareness, sensitization and partnership can only bring in transformational change. She said that despite various structural and systematic challenges, JMC has taken various innovative initiatives across the waste management supply chain. B R Sharma, Chairman, IIPA J&K Regional Branch in his presidential remarks said that citizens, as an important stakeholder, will have to play a pro-active role in ensuring waste reduction at source. He said that the vision of Prime Minister can only be realized "if we as a society believe in the philosophy that cleanliness begins at home". Dr. G N Qasba, ex-Commissioner, SMC and Vice-Chairman, IIPA J&K Regional Branch in his opening remarks flagged off various concerns like post disaster waste management, handling community level infectious disease waste management, integrated sanitation and waste management in rural and remote areas. Prof. V. Srinivas Chary, Director, ASCI while speaking on urban sanitation explained the salient features of the recently launched SBM 2.0 and Amrut 2.and discussed about the mission objectives, outcomes and funding pattern and highlighted the benefits of fund allocation towards Jammu Kashmir. He spoke about used water management &water security and highlighted the adverse impacts of not handling it and later discussed various interesting case studies about the options of treating the used water The capacity building program was attended by over 50 senior officers, CEO and EO nominated by JMC and Urban Local Bodies in addition to members of IIPA. Dr. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary coordinated the rogramme while Prof. Alka Sharma, Honorary Secretary proposed the formal vote of thanks. |
