11/1/2021 11:08:48 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 1: The previous month of October 2021 not only witnessed spike in civilian and militant killings in restive Kashmir alone but that Jammu witnessed martyrdom of as many as eleven brave-hearts of the Indian Army making it “the deadliest month of terror strikes” in the last around half a decade.
While 13 civilians and 20 militants were killed in Kashmir, Jammu witnessed deadly terror strikes in the Poonch Rajauri areas.
On October 30 with killing of Lieutenant Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit Singh in an IED blast in Rajauri the toll reached eleven for the month of October.
Prior to this On Oct 16, Subedar Ajay Singh and Naik Harendra Singh were killed during a search operation being conducted by the Indian Army along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the densely forested area of Nar Khas forest in Mendhar on October 16. The objective of the operation was to flush out terrorists hiding in the forested area. Prior to it, two Army personnel were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The duo was identified as riflemen Vikram Singh Negi (26) and Yogambar Singh (27).
Before that five Indian Army soldiers were killed in Poonch sector. Among the deceased were four jawans and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
The five were identified as Naib Subedar (JCO) Jaswinder Singh, a recipient of Sena Medal, Naik Mandeep Singh and Sepoys Gajjan Singh, Saraj Singh and Vaisakh H.
A senior official said that October proved “deadliest for Jammu in the last around half a decade given the number of fatalities due to terror related incidents.” He said in the last few years, most of the fatalities had been due to cross border shelling or other violation of the ceasefire but that this time there was a rise in terror related incidents in the winter capital province.
Its pertinent to mention that in the wake of terror strikes, the highway in Poonch had been closed for civilian movement for the past few days that it was reopened on October 31.
