Early Times Report

Anantnag, Nov 9: The Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has finally kick started implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Scheme at Pahalgam by allowing thirty (30) beneficiaries to start construction.
In a statement, Anantnag district administration and Pahalgam Development Authority said that they cleared over 30 cases of PMAY. 54 such cases placed in 12th BOCA meeting which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and attended by nine (09) other officers representing Forest, PDA, PHE, R&B, Wildlife, Town planning and other departments.
“30 PMAY cases in which the beneficiaries are families belonging to economically weaker sections were granted approval by BOCA for construction of their houses,” a press statement issued in this regard said.
PDA admitted that these houses had been pending for approval for 4-5 years, saying the PMAY design was not in consonance with Pahalgam Master plan 2032 guidelines.
The District Administration, taking cognizance of the su

fering caused by delay in sanction of these cases approached the office of the Chief Town Planner, and in a first of its kind initiative in UT of J&K, came up with a new design that was in coherence with Pahalgam Master plan 2032, it said.
Vindicating ET reports that ‘PDA had blocked the implantation of PMAY scheme at Pahalgam’ PDA and District administration claimed that only one (1) PMAY case was approved in the last five years.
In 12th BOCA meeting, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Piyush Singla (IAS) also approved construction of residential houses, huts and construction of several other government establishments. In addition to this, the BOCA allowed hoteliers to go for necessary repairs and renovations
As reported earlier, the Development Authority, which was created to take care of the development of famed tourist destination Pahalgam-is allegedly adopting lackadaisical approach in issuing the permissions to PMAY beneficiaries as it failed to convey a special BOCA meeting for clearing the cases in the last five years.
