Horticulture Deptt organizes awareness camp

SAMBA, Dec 8: The Department of Horticulture, District Samba today organized a mega awareness camp at remotest village Budhwana of Goran panchayat, in block Sumb, wherein more than 200 farmers of all the horticulture zones of District Samba participated.
Principal Secretary to Horticulture, Agriculture Production & Farmers' Welfare Department, J&K Govt, Navin Kumar Choudhary was the chief guest on the occasion.
During the programme, the Director Horticulture Jammu Sh. Ram Savak, JKAS, welcomed the Principal Secretary and briefed the chair about the progress being made in respect of plantation and other components of distt. Samba. He said that being a kandi belt, there is a huge potential of fruit crops viz: Aonla, Citrus, Mango and most importantly plantation of Aloe-Vera.
While addressing a large gathering of farmers, Navin Kumar Choudhary asked them to adopt the diversification of crops in their fields so that they can earn during the whole year. He said that the camp was organized to generate awareness about various centrally sponsored schemes of the department in general and aloe vera plantation in particular with a motive to enhance the farmer's income. He urged farmers of the area to come forward, avail benefits of different farmer friendly schemes of the department by adopting Horticulture in particular and Dairy farming, Mushroom farming, Honey-bee keeping, pulses and Aloe vera plantation in their fields in place of traditional farming which will help them in doubling the income.
Axion Ayurvedas Managing Director, Rishab Gupta while addressing the farmers, assured that they will buy back the Aloe Vera production from which a farmer can earn more in comparison to conventional farming.
Later, Navin Kumar Choudhary inaugurated the mega plantation drive in a cluster of 200 kanals by planting saplings of Citrus and Aloe Vera plant at village Budhwana of Goran panchayat in presence of Director Horticulture Jammu, Jt. Director Horticulture Jammu, DDC vice chairman Balwan Singh, BDC Chairman Sumb, Ramesh Singh, Sarpanch Goran Sardar Singh and other officers and farmers.
