Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 2: Power Development Department (PDD)has failed to restore the electricity in Kangnoo village of Shopian district, thus forcing the villagers to reel under darkness during ChilliKalan.
Residents of Kangnoo village informed ET that thetransformer in their area developed a technical snag some one month ago, but theauthorities have failed to repair it since then plunging the entire village in darkness. Mohammad Yousf Mir of the same area said that thedepartment concerned has miserably failed to restore the electricity.
He further added that the department is forcing themto face hardships as without electricity they are being asked to pay the charges for the same.
“How can we pay for the power for free when we didn’t get electricity for almost one month.
“The tall claims of the government fall flat, asrecently the government had said that there will be no power cuts in the entire union territory, but that seems theoretically good and on ground the faulty claims gets punctured”, said locals of Kangnoo.
It is learnt from the locals that, there area is almost 10 km away from district headquarter Shopian.
The locals said many times transformers wererepaired but again and again they get damaged, one fails to understand the cause of routinely damage to transformers.
It was learnt that the government has sent a newtransformer of 100 kv but yet that has not reached our village. The locals appealed to the PDD higher ups to look intothe matter and redress their genuine grievances at the earliest so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief. We also request the governor administration tosolve this issue once for all, as they are facing the problems on cold days astheir children suffer immensely.
