Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: Due to accumulation of fresh snow on roads, a pregnant lady from Hilan Hakpatri Perniya area of Boniyar in Sub Division of Uri in north Kashmir was taken to the hospital on a cot.
According to sources that a pregnant woman Noor Jahan, went into labor pain on Wednesday at her home in Hilan Hakpatri Perniya of Boniyar Sub Division, after which the relatives and villagers wrapped her in a quilt and blankets and carried her in a makeshift cot to reach the nearest health center.
“Though the ambulance was sent to ferry a pregnant woman, but due to a slippery road that couldn’t reach to the proper stop and was later stationed in the nearby area for a long time, after which she was taken to the PHC Boniyar in an ambulance”, said sources.
Local residents of Perniya said that, due to closure of roads for vehicular traffic amid prevailing inclement weather conditions, the concerned department of R&B, Beacon, Mechanical Engineering should have kept their men and machinery ready to clear the roads well in advance.
This is not the first time when such an incident happened, but in the past it was also seen that roads were not cleared for many days, it gives tough times to the locals of rural areas especially those people that are living in the hilly areas, locals informed to ET.
However, sources while quoting Mohammad Saleem, husband of pregnant woman as having said that they informed PHC Boniyar to send a vehicle to carry her however due to closure of link road they (hospital staff) could not reach to fetch her to the health facility.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Boniyar, Dr Pervaiz Masoodi said that, the pregnant lady, namely Noor Jahan that was carried on cot is having an Expected Date of Delivery (EDD) on Jan 09/2022, we have already informed Asha Workers to get all those pregnant women to the nearest hospitals for treatment.
As we all know, there remains a chance of heavy snowfall during winters in Kashmir, and accordingly in advance we had informed this pregnant lady to reach our hospital, but she didn’t.
There might have been a delay in road clearance in some of the areas, but half way we had sent our ambulance to carry her and she was picked from Perniya.
As of now the pregnant lady is safe in our hospital, there is no sign of delivery at the moment, said Dr Parvaiz Masoodi.
Meanwhile many hilly areas of Sub Division Uri including Nawa, Runda, Gowalan, Sukhdar, Churanda, Batgrah, Sohra, Hathlanga, Mohthal, upper Nambla, upper Garkote, Zamoorpatan, Maya, Lachipora, Bijhama, Babagale, Limber, Hillan, Phalipora, Chotali, Dudran, Banali and Tarkajan Boniyar received fresh snowfall.
Many roads are blocked and power supply to a large number of snow bound areas has been snapped in Sub Division Uri, said locals of Uri town.
JKNC District President Baramulla Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri urged administration to clear snow on roads and restore power supply on war footing basis in district Baramulla especially in far-flung areas of Sub Division Uri.
