EArly Times Report

Jammu, Jan 8: Dogra Youth (A Group of Political Activists) here on Saturday extended full support to Yuva Rajput Sabha’s call for agitation which will be launched from January 10 for declaring holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh Jayanti, Dogra Youth activist shall actively participate in the agitation.”
Today a meeting was held under the leadership of Partap Singh Jamwal & Bhanu Partap Singh Goria with other activists of DY.
Speaking on the occasion, Partap Singh Jamwal demanded a government holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, who merged Jammu and Kashmir with India. However, it is a matter of fact that this demand of the people of Jammu is very old. But it is a matter of regret that for many years only politics is being done on this demand, Partap said.
Partap further said that when the BJP was in opposition, it used to demand a government holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, but after forming the government with the PDP, Maharaja Hari, who merged Jammu and Kashmir with India, the party didn’t even remember Maharaj's Birthday. Bhanu Partap Goria said that The Maharaja introduced the Infant Marriage Act and Untouchability Act to safeguard the people of this princely state,” he said, adding that it was only because of Maharaja Hari Singh, the High Court was established and his judicial advisers were appointed as the judges. The accession of J&K with India was also possible because of Maharaja Hari Singh. Bhanu Partap Goria said that now Article 370 and 35A have been abolished from Jammu and Kashmir, therefore, the Lieutenant Governor should declare a government holiday on the birthday of the Maharaja.
