Majority community neglected by reservation policy: GCPF
1/8/2022 10:43:41 PM

earLY tIMES rEPORT

Jammu, Jan 8: General Category People’s Front (GCPF-JK) held its meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, the Chairman of the Front. In the meeting, participants deliberated upon the issues of majority community, including its neglect, marginalization and socio-economic and political discrimination being perpetuated by the Govt. of India through reservation and partial treatment for vested political interests.
Addressing the meeting, Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front strongly condemned the continuation of reservation on the basis of caste, class & religion without any review. Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has ruled that states are not bound to provide reservation in appointment or promotion and there is no fundamental right to claim reservation in promotion. The state could not be forced to make provisions without data showing imbalance in representation of certain communities in the Public Sector. He added that reservation on the basis of caste and religion is the most basic denial of equal opportunities. Demanding reservation in the light of Sachar committee or Mandal commission report which are too old to be relevant today has become a daily routine and fashion for some people. He said that GCPF reiterated its demand that legal and constitutional steps be taken to make caste based reservation irrelevant, as it has become a political issue – a vote-catching device for political outfits. The politicians and individuals supporting reservation are biased and prejudiced. Reservation is not a right as claimed by some outfits. Government should provide Monetary Assistance to economically and educationally backward families of all castes and religions in place of reservation which keeps the nation away from what it should be. Mr. Som Nath Sharma, Gen. Secretary appealed to the Govt. of India to change negative perception about Swarn Caste, Majority and provide them equal opportunities and equal participation in public life by ending special privileges, concessions quotas and reservation of all kinds. Sharma said that caste and religion are not involved with socio-economic and political activities of the country. He said that Front appealed the Government of India to focus on removing discrimination done with General Category and adhere to the principles of equality, justice and equal opportunities, removing sub-clauses of article 16 and abrogating article 330 and 332. The benefits and concessions guaranteed to Sc’s /STs and minorities can be extended to others. Discrimination on the basis of caste, class and religion is an ordeal for majority of Indians. Government should formulate socio-economic and political policies based on equality and justice for all. Front does not believe in the politics of deception, discrimination and division and reiterate its demand for “Equal Rights and Equal Laws for All”. V.K. Sharma, Vice President alleged that Govt. has failed to keep check on the prices of essential commodities and protects the interest of the poor and middle class. Spike in prices has caused a lot of Heart-ache for people. He said that subsidies and freebies are part of a fraud, deceit and political blackmailing of people for the lust of power. All the subsidies and freebies should be stopped to lessen the burden of heavy taxes on people. In his providential address, Banathia condemned Govt. for effecting amendments against the basic spirit of constitution for Vote bank politics, destroying social fabric of Indian society. He pleaded for the similar rights of different groups of people to have a social position and receive the same treatment regardless of their apparent differences. The prominent who attended the meeting were, Bhushan Pargal, Deepak Khajuria, Surinder Kumar, Gopal Dass Verma and Dr. bansi Lal. Jagdish Dogra was the special guest.
