Fed up of neglect, people repair road themselves
1/10/2022 11:43:00 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

REASI, Jan 10: After the Public Works Department (PWD) in Reasi district turned a deaf ear to the pathetic road conditions in several areas of Reasi particularly the Shiv Khori road, the locals have now taken it upon themselves to bring about a change. Keeping aside their household activities and regular work, villagers picked up shovels to fix the dilapidated roads on their own.
People from different sections of society residing enroute famous religious destination- Shiv Khori are contributing in one way or the other towards the repair works.
Disappointed over the poor road conditions, villagers informed that patients, students and daily office goers are the worst affected while travelling by the Shiv Khori road to their respective destinations.“Many a time, medical patients, especially pregnant women, could not reach the nearby hospital on time,” a villager said. Many accidents have also been reported from the locality in the past due to the poor condition of the road," he added.“We have been waiting for quite a long time, hoping that some kind of initiative will be undertaken from the part of the government, but it did not happen," he said.
He further said that residents of Shiv Khori and adjoining areas decided to fix dilapidated road stretches after PWD turned a deaf ear to their problems.
Meanwhile, villagers have appealed to the district administration to take a serious note of the poor road condition and immediately commence repairing work for the same.
“Our condition will be worse if the PWD officials don’t address it at the earliest,” a local resident said.
