Dilapidated roads mock Smart City claims

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 10: Although the announcement of developing Jammu as Smart City was made long back, it has failed to catch the eye of the bad condition of roads in many localities. Several roads have not even seen a drop of asphalt.
Various vital interior roads in the Smart City are in dilapidated condition giving a tough time to locals and commuters. Some important link roads are dotted with potholes hampering smooth vehicular movement.
While the recent rains made the condition of the city roads more pathetic as due to the continuous rainfall for 4-5 days even the small potholes on several road stretches have grown in size.
The ditches on the roads pose a serious threat to commuters. The traffic cannot be smooth because big potholes confront the vehicle rider suddenly at any point. The Canal Road stretch is one such glaring example where several life threatening potholes are clearly visible but the concerned agencies are turning a blind eye towards its deplorable condition."The road has not been repaired for a long time. This road perhaps was never properly repaired during the last few years," said a commuter.
While moving on this road, the commuters suddenly get a feeling as if they are passing through a remote village road," he added.
The potholes have become dangerous. The possibility of vehicles skidding through these places cannot be ruled out. The local people residing in nearby localities and the traders running their business establishments along the Canal Road appealed to concerned authorities to take necessary measures including macadamization at the earliest to avoid any road accident or injury to any pedestrians.
This is a small glimpse of roads in a part of Jammu, which has been notified as Smart City.
