Early Times Report
SUNDERBANI, Jan 30: Despite tall claims of the government of making public functioning and services corruption free, a glaring example of deceit and fraud has surfaced from Panchayat Seyia of Sunderbani, wherein payment was made to vendor for the work done by someone else.
According to the reports, a few years back a project of construction of a well was initiated at ward 5 of Panchayat Seyia, but the contractor who invested money for the project had to run from pillar to post to get the payment.
"I completed the construction of the well within stipulated time, but he had to struggle for getting the payment," said Bal Krishan, while talking to the Early Times. He informed that after disappointment on all fronts, he approached the local Sarpanch Pooja Devi.
"Sarpanch instantly initiated an investigation into the matter and found that the payment for the said project already stands released, but in the name of some other vendor," said Krishan adding that a total amount of Rs 48,000 was released for the said project. He maintained that during further investigation, it came to fore that the local Village Level Worker was involved in the siphoning of the money.
"During the investigation, it was found that VLW got the money from the vendor and was reluctant to return it back," claimed Krishan adding that however, due to intervention of the police, VLW returned the money. Meanwhile, talking to Early Times, local Sarpanch Pooja Devi said that she is fighting corrupt elements and will continue to fight against this menace. ACD Rajouri Sushil Khajuria said that it was not in his notice, but he will further inquire the matter and the guilty shall not be spared.
