Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 30: In yet another shocking development, the Jammu and Kashmir has been overtaking New Delhi in the number of Covid cases recorded, over the last few days.
Even though New Delhi is far more populated and congested as compared to Jammu and Kashmir, this union territory has been witnessing “far more cases” than the national capital if comparison of the last few days is taken into account.
While Delhi has been recording around 4,000 cases per day in the last few days, the J&K recorded even around 6,000 cases in a day.
Medical health experts said the number of cases of Covid in Jammu and Kashmir have exposed the tall claims of the administration in tackling the pandemic.
What is already a matter of concern for the residents of Jammu is that the winter capital region has been witnessing more deaths than Kashmir during the ongoing “third wave of the Covid.”
Ironically even though Jammu witnessed “highest” mortality in the UT during the second wave, the government doesn’t seem to have learnt any lessons to improve the preparedness.
The administration has already been facing criticism for allegedly focussing more of music and dance concerts than on the deliverance of good governance.
“Holding festivities has been so vital for the government of Jammu and Kashmir that even on the days of lockdown, the Shikara rallies and sporting events are held. If there are restrictions on common man’s movements, why no curbs on celebrations being hosted by the administration itself,” said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity.
Interestingly on the day the Covid cases had doubled in Jammu earlier this month, the government kickstarted a three-day poetry festival here.
The officials have been saying that they have verbal instructions from some “officials on deputation who are calling the shots that no festivities being hosted by the government should be cancelled come what may.”
The residents of Jammu have been frequently protesting against the “babu raaj” and they also do seek intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
