GCOE Jammu organizes heritage tour to Akhnoor

JAMMU, Feb 9: The M.Ed. course students and IQAC of GCOE Jammu organized a heritage tour to Akhnoor in collaboration with INTACH Jammu chapter.
The tour was flagged off by M.Ed coordinator Dr. Rajinder Kour, convener IQAC Prof. Shalini Rana, H.O.D Social Sciences Prof. Anuradha Chaudhary under the patronage of Principal Dr. Kulvinder Kour. In her message Dr. Kulvinder Kour said that Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our culture and ancient heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. It is a key to identity, well-being, decisions and actions. It helps us examine our history and traditions and enables us develop awareness about ourselves.
The students and faculty members were accompanied by Sh. S.M Sawhney. The motive of organizing this Heritage Tour was to promote the historic sites in and around Jammu particularly Akhnoor which is home to several historical sites. This heritage tour motivated the students to learn, review and reconceptualize their attitudes towards heritage sites, and appreciate their significance, respect the need for their existence and conservation and appreciate the need for more community education about the heritage sites.
The participants were taken to historical site- Raghunath Temple Samah, Pond Park B. Brahmna Ambaran (Buddhist Site), Akhnoor Fort, Guru Dwara Toporan Sahib, Pandav Guffa, Jio Pota and Parshuram Temple of Akhnoor to showcase the rich heritage of Town. The tour was an informative and exciting excursion. The tour was convened by Dr. Rajinder Kour, Prof. Anuradha Chaudhary, Prof. Shalini Rana, Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Prof. Rubina, S M Sahni Convener INTACH Jammu Chapter, Arvind Kotwal Coordinator Heritage Tourism INTACH Jammu chapter and the student organizers were Payal Sharma, Sabya, Konika Jamwal and Nidhi Sharma.
