Ulta Pulta: Bemina localities kept out of Bemina Police Station
Locals seek PM Modi’s intervention

Srinagar, Feb 9: Even as the Modi government has been generous enough to create some new police stations in Srinagar district, the localities falling in the concerned area have kept out of the police station for that area.
One such thana Bemina Police Station, which till a few months ago was a Police Post falling under Police Station Parimpora, has drawn flak from locals.
While the Police Post has been upgraded into a full-fledged police station now, the residential localities which are known as part of Bemina have been kept with Batamaloo Police Station which is some kilometers away from the spot.
Interestingly, the Nund Reshi Colony, Iqbalabad and adjoining areas, which are known as Bemina localities have been kept with the Batamaloo Police Station.
“Nund Reshi Colony is just some three hundred meters away from Bemina Police Station but it has been kept with the Batamaloo Police Station which is four kilometers away from the spot,” said a former police official living in Bemina.
He said as a part of the creation of the new Police Stations, the government should have opted for creation of new boundaries for the new thanas.
“How can you keep a colony which is known as Bemina out of Bemina Police Station? What argument is this?” he asked.
A senior official told Early Times on the condition of anonymity that creation of new police jurisdictions would need assistance from other departments like Revenue and hence the process was avoided.
The police, however, have been saying that the areas which have been kept with the Batamaloo had already been with Batamaloo Police Station.
“Only the areas that were falling under the Bemina Police Post have been brought under the Bemina Police Station,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile the inhabitants of Bemina have appealed Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to personally look into the matter and get the issue of jurisdiction resolved.
“The local administration in Jammu and Kashmir doesn’t listen to people so we have no options but to appeal honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji to look into the matter,” said the sources.
