Neglect of Dogra heritage leaves Jammuties fuming
2/13/2022 12:49:30 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 12: With the government allegedly failing to restore the golden heritage left behind by the Dogra Maharajas in the winter capital region, Jammuites have expressed concern over such “continued neglect” of by successive regimes.
A social media handle promoting Dogra heritage had posted picture of the iconic Mubarak Mandi with the caption: “Then & Now entrence gate of Mubarak Mandi once upon the royal residence of the Maharaja of erstwhile state of #jammu and kashmir from the #Dogra dynasty.”
The picture left many of the Jammuites emotional of “how successive regimes had done nothing for the conservation of the Dogra heritage while the incumbent regime of Babu raaj was behaving no different either.”
“This is how Dogra heritage of #Jammu has been taken care of. Systematic attempts to erase a history which has contributed much to Nation building by extending the boundaries to northern most frontiers.
Over decades cosmetic attempts to restore have only filled personal coffers,” said a prominent Jammuite on the social media.
It’s pertinent to mention that while the administration is leaving no stone unturned for the promotion of heritage and tourism in Kashmir, “Jammu continues to be on the backburner.”
Most of the prestigious projects for restoration of the glory of Jammu have either missed deadlines or don’t seem on the priority of the government.
Recently the government started heritage walks in Srinagar whereas no such effort seems to be underway in Jammu.
A bus for promotion of heritage was also recently rolled out by the government in Kashmir but no such effort could be seen in Jammu.
“From the promotion of tourism to conservation of heritage, Kashmir seems to be the only focus of the officials whereas Jammu aspirations continue to be in cold storage,” said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity.
Its pertinent to mention that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to see end to discrimination with Jammu after the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir but that “babu raaj is playing spoilsport.” “Modi Ji needs to intervene and make officials accountable,” said some Jammuites.
The government however has been refuting allegations of discrimination with Jammu saying that both the regions were getting equal opportunities.”
