Rural populace of district Udhampur worst victim of official apathy: Harsh Dev
2/19/2022 10:47:18 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 19: Alleging neglect and deprivation of rural areas of District Udhampur at the hands of present dispensation, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman-JKNPP and former Minister on Saturday sought personal indulgence of the Lt. Governor so as to mitigate the sufferings of the people inhabiting such areas.
He said that during his successive tours of rural and remote areas falling in Chenani, Udhampur and Ramnagar constituencies, he had observed huge resentment brewing amongst the people due to their persistent disregard by the powers thatbe with people suffering for want of even the civic essential amenities. The govt functionaries had floundered in addressing their basic requirements including proper connectivity, ration, power and water supply. He was addressing a press conference in Udhampur on Saturday.
Coming down heavily on the District Administration Udhampur for its failure to address the pathetic plight of the aggrieved rural folk, Singh said that majority of the villages in the Blocks of Chenani, Latti, Dudu-Basantgarh, Pancheri, Jaganoo and Ghordi were facing chronic problems of water and power supply. Majority of the villages shown to have been electrified in the said blocks in papers were either without power connections or suffered from extremely poor voltage, huge unscheduled cuts and frequent power outages. There were numerous instances where bills were sent to people without power connections having been provided to them. Several electric wires could be seen hanging on trees and even touching the ground at several places which had consumed several livestock besides human lives at certain places. Regretfully there was none to take note or to respond. With regard to drinking water, the govt had made loud claims of water supply to each school and household without taking the desired initiative. The people were forced to collect rain water to quench their thirst or to procure water from ponds and rivers thus providing the extremely pathetic state of affairs in the hinterland.
Manju Singh (General Secretary-JKNPP), Rampaul Bhagat (District President SC Cell Udhampur-NPP), Teranter Singh (Vice President-District Udhampur-NPP), Mohinder Singh, Ramesh Bhagat (senior NPP leaders), Balbir Singh, Wishavdev Singh, Raj Kumar, Jagdish Singh and Raj Pratap Singh were also present in the press conference.
