Rajinder Park along Ranbir Canal remains unmaintained, authorities in slumber
2/19/2022 11:21:35 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 19: Rajinder Park along the Ranbir Canal here is in ailing condition and crying for attention of the authorities concerned. Unwanted grass, bushes and weeds have come up in the park which shows that this recreational spot had not been maintained from the past sometime. The overall maintenance is not up to the mark which visitors expect from the authorities concerned.
Morning and evening walkers besides local residents have expressed grave concern over the dilapidated condition of the park mainly due to poor maintenance.
Overgrown bushes, piles of garbage and withering greenery can be seen in the park, they said. They complained that the authority concerned is not making any efforts to improve the poor condition of this park despite repeated pleas. Several morning as well as evening walkers beside other regular visitors, who come to the park find this place always littered with garbage. They complained that the park is not cleaned on a regular basis and garbage remains scattered for long durations. Local residents said that the Rajinder Park was once a good spot for people to walk and relax but over the past few years, it had been lying in a dilapidated condition due to poor upkeep.
They said it was sad to see that the administration was not bothered about the maintenance of recreational places where people could spend quality time, adding that the authorities should come forward with a concrete action plan for proper upkeep of the public parks. The locals of the nearby areas while expressing concern over the situation of the park in their vicinity, said parks were meant to be maintained properly otherwise they simply present an ugly picture. They said unwanted grass and stagnant water accumulated in the park were blots on its beauty. “It saddens us to say that this park serves so many purposes in a community like providing playing space to children, socializing space to adults and a healthy environment to people, is in a pathetic state these days thanks largely to the official neglect,” the locals said.
“Heaps of garbage and overgrown grass as well as bushes can be seen everywhere in this ill-maintained park which once used to be the pride of Jammu city and a common place for community interaction,” they added.
