Rajouri, Feb 25: Despite shortage of staff, the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri has been ranked second after SMGS Hospital Jammu in best gynecologic facilities in Jammu region. The mortality rate as well as referrals of delivery cases has declined enormously in the past more than one year.
Around 600-650 delivery cases are performed every month in the hospital which is high as compared to the past because due to referral syndrome very few deliveries were performed at the hospital. Meanwhile the mortality rate as well as referrals of cases has also come down to zero.
Due to improved gynecologic services at GMC Rajouri, the patients from adjoining districts including Poonch and Reasi also prefer to visit this hospital instead of going to Jammu. While talking to HOD Gynecology Department GMC Rajouri Associate Prof Dr Chander Shekhar said that patients from adjoining areas of other districts including Nowshera, Sunderbani, Kalakote also visit this hospital for delivery cases.
He further informed that in additional to delivery cases, the department has started performing Abdominal and Vaginal Hysterectomy and other gyne surgeries including cancer surgeries here. “Earlier the patients had to go to Jammu for such surgeries. We try to provide all possible health facilities related to gyne here so that patient might not suffer, which come from far off area of the district,” he added.
Local citizens have also appreciated the gyne department for showing outstanding performance, which has benefited a lot to the common people of this border district. Although GMC Rajouri Hospital has been facing a huge shortage of resident doctors and other staff, several efforts are being made by some of the departments to provide all health facilities.
“There are a total six consultants in GMC Rajouri and out of which there is only one senior consultant and there is shortage of Junior Residents in the Hospital. If this shortage is overcome, the hospital can run smoothly,” he informed.
