PDD Targets Poor
2/25/2022 11:50:55 PM

Power Department snapping the connections of people in many areas for not paying the bills has triggered outrage in Jammu region.
Instead of sympathizing with the people, who are struggling to come out of the losses they have suffered due to Covid-19 the Power Department is plunging them into darkness.
The department could have asked the consumers to pay the bills in installments rather than making them pay in one shot. People are angry over the silence being maintained by the senior BJP leaders and are looking towards them to raise their voice. Although senior leaders are tight-lipped, the low rung leaders of the party have started raising their voice against the bureaucratic rule being prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP corporator Pawan Singh has expressed his anger against arrogant and inhuman attitude of the authorities. He has stated that the present regime is harassing the poor people in one or other way and the drive to disconnect the electricity in the areas where poor are residing is totally unjustified. He regretted the actions of the government are directly affecting the BJP as the people believe that our party is running the government.
It’s unfortunate that the PDD has tightened its noose around the poor people instead of the big fishes. There are many government departments which owe crores to PDD and there are also many influential people who have not paid their electricity dues for the past many years. But no action has been initiated against them till date.
The former ministers and legislators were provided official accommodations with a 24-hour power supply after the PDP-BJP coalition government came to power on March 1, 2015. Though the J&K is now under President’s rule, the bills of these politicians have not been cleared yet.
The Power Department during the past few months has remained in news for the wrong reasons. In December last year the employees went on a strike following which the administration sought the help of the Army to restore the essential services. After the winter has set in, the department has failed to provide the power supply in a consistent manner. People in Jammu as well as Kashmir regions are facing the unscheduled power cuts. Despite power supply being erratic, people are being made to pay the hefty power bills through their nose. And the poor people who are already grappling with the number of issues are being plunged into darkness by disconnecting their lines.
