| Indian pro boxer aids stranded students | | |  agencies
NEW DELHI, Mar 2: Indian professional boxer Neeraj Goyat aided stranded student who struggled to escape the Ukraine after Russian invasion.
The 30-year-old reached out to his contacts in Ukraine after the invasion by Russian forces and shared a contact details on his Twitter for the students who were stranded in the Ukrainian capital.
"For transportation from Kyiv to Lviv, please call Dima. Contact- +380 63 114 3042. When you reach lviv contact me," he tweeted.
"I found out that there were many Indian students in the east of the country who were trying to escape but didn't know how.
A few of them had reached out to me. In my boxing career, I have travelled a lot to that part of Europe. I know a lot of boxers and coaches from that region so I reached out to them," ESPN quoted Goyat as saying.
"There are students across Ukraine who are trying to escape. There were students in Kyiv who reached out to me. I'm part of a WhatsApp group with a lot of Ukrainian boxers and coaches so through them I was able to get the contact number of a cab driver who was willing to drive out of Kyiv to Lviv. I spoke to the driver once and then was able to pass it on to the students," he added.
On Wednesday, the boxer posted a video of students heading Budomeriz Border from lviv and said,"
"30-35 Indian students are going Budomeriz Border (Poland) from lviv. They will reach at border in next 2-3 hours. Please help them with Border crossing and also try if they will get 7:30 am flight from Poland to India."
Earlier, on his social media he said: "All Indian students who are stuck in Ukraine if you need help then please contact me as I have a big boxing family in Ukraine. They will definitely reach you to help."
Several students had been evacuated safely, while several are still stranded and one has been killed in shelling on Tuesday in Kharkiv. |
