Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 2: All J&K Chowkidar Association staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding an increase in their wages.
Talking to reporters, representatives of the association, said, “We are being paid Rs 1500/ per month. It’s difficult to feed our families in this meager amount. The government should implement the Minimum Wages Act (MWA).”
“We are around 5500 chowkidars across J&K. We have to cooperate with every department and provide them with details of births and deaths, encroachments and other issues in our area. The Revenue officers have no idea about the importance of the Chowkidars,” they said.
“We tried our best to seek an appointment with LG Sahib but we were not provided with a chance to meet him. We appeal to the LG administration to pay attention towards our plight and increase our salaries,” protesters said.
