ADGP Security inaugurates national course on Human Rights at JU

JAMMU, Mar 3: The inaugural function of the two weeks Refresher Course in Human Rights for College and University teachers being organized by UGC HRDC in collaboration with the Department of Home Science was held today. Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, ADGP, Security, J&K was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Dr. Jamwal while delivering his presidential address observed that all sections of the society need to pitch in for the protection and propagation of Human Rights. He appreciated the University of Jammu for organizing a course on Human Rights that holds great significance in contemporary times. Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, also attended the inaugural function. Prof. Sundeep K Pandita, Director, UGC-HRDC, University of Jammu in his address highlighted the importance of human rights for society. He was also of the view that not only fundamental rights but Directive principles and fundamental duties of the Indian constitution are important. Earlier in her welcome address, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head of the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, (Coordinator of the course) gave the objectives and details of the course to the participants. She apprised that the course will familiarize the participants with the human rights-based approach, the gender perspective and the systems approach. Dr Sarika Manhas, Associate Professor (Deputy Coordinator of the Course) introduced the Chief Guest of the occasion to the audience. Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, UGC HRDC, JU presented a formal vote of thanks. The 2-week course will be coordinated by Prof. Samridhi Arora and Dr. Sarika Manhas from the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Kanchan Sharma and Vinish Malik, Research Scholars of the Department of Home Science, JU.
