| Srinagar’s weekly Sunday market shut | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 13: The traditional Sunday market in Srinagar wore a deserted look with no vendor seen having put up their stalls Sunday.
No official statement on the closure of the weekly Sunday market was issued.
Hundreds of vendors set up their stalls from the Tourist Reception Centre, Residency road, Lal Chowk, Amirakadal and Hari Singh High Street on every Sunday selling all daily use items.
People in large numbers from all across the Kashmir valley use to throng the weekly Sunday market from early morning in Srinagar to make purchases of their choice.
On March 6, the last Sunday, a hand grenade was lobbed by militants near the busy Amirakadal road resulting in injuries to 38 people including a cop.
However, two persons including a 20-year-old girl succumbed to their injuries in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar.
Police on March 9 claimed to have arrested two persons in connection with Sunday market grenade attack incident at Amira Kadal, that had killed 2 civilians and injured 38 others.
SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal had said it was CCTV footage and hi-tech methods which helped to crack the Amira Kadal terror attack case.
The SSP had urged business establishments across Srinagar to install CCTV cameras outside and inside their shops as soon as possible.
Bawal had also said police also seized a bike without a registration number. He said the seized bike was used in lobbing the grenade. |
