Short circuit in power supply lines damages appliances, PDD unmoved
3/14/2022 12:07:27 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 13: Locals of village Keran Pattiyan in Bantalab area on city outskirts are going through anxious moments these days as they are clueless to deal with the negligence of Power Development Department (PDD).
According to locals, the height of PDD’s carelessness could be gauged from the fact that a few days back a short circuit caused by the loose electric supply wires damaged several electrical appliances worth lakhs in their households.
The inhabitants of the area said that they are still under fear of another repeat of the similar incident as the loose wires are still generating huge sparks especially during night hours which could again cause a new catastrophe for them. “Several of our electric appliances including water purifier, transformer, set top box, fans and switches were completely gutted due to the sudden short circuit caused by the supply wires recently. PDD is solely responsible for our losses. It (PDD) should compensate us for our damages,” said a few women residents of the village.
“We are not economically sound people so it would be very difficult for us to replace or go for repairs for our damaged appliances,” they added.
Another villager said that the last incident damaged only the appliances but if it happened again then who knows what is stored for the villagers.
“Thank god only a few appliances got burnt and there was no loss of human life due to the threatening short circuit but the government would have no answers if any precious life is lost in case such an incident gets repeated again,” he said. Instead of taking any concrete action the government is watching like a mute spectator which is highly deplorable, the locals said, adding that they have also lodged an FIR into the incident but nothing has been done so far by the police. The villagers demanded that the PDD should be made answerable for their damages and also sought compensation for the losses they incurred at the earliest.
