Punjab Govt bars private schools from hiking fee, in J&K these institutions dictate terms

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 30: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has barred the private schools from hiking the fee to make education affordable.
Mann has directed private schools not to specify any particular shop for buying books and uniforms in the coming academic session.
In a video statement, Mann said that private schools cannot increase their fees by even a rupee. “The government will frame a detailed school fee policy after discussion with stakeholders, including parents of schoolchildren and principals of private schools,” he said, stressing the need to make education affordable.
The chief minister also directed private schools not to specify any particular shop for buying books and uniforms.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The J&K Government should take a cue from the AAP regime in Punjab. Soon after coming into power it has taken major people-friendly initiatives like regularizing more than 35000 daily wagers, announcing home delivery of ration for the poor people, and now the private schools have been directed not to dictate terms to the parents.”
He said, “When the Article 370 was scrapped, the J & K people were promised that the region would witness massive changes. Unfortunately the Union Territory hasn’t seen any change as more than 60,000 daily wagers are awaiting regularization, forget home delivery ration shops usually remain empty and poor people have to return empty handed, the private schools in J&K dictate terms to parents. Students are asked to buy uniforms and stationery from only a specified shop.”
“Where is the change that J&K people were promised,” the analyst added.
