SUNCHEON, Apr 8: Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu and silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth sailed into the semifinals of the Korea Open badminton championships here on Friday.
While Sindhu trounced Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-10, 21-16, Srikanth registered a 21-12, 18-21, 21-12 win over Son Wan Ho of South Korea in the quarterfinals of the Super 500 event.
This was Sindhu's 17th win against Busanan in 18 meetings. Sindhu had defeated the Thai shuttler in the Swiss Open final to clinch her second Super 500 title of the season last month.
Sindhu, who is ranked 7th in the world, will face either world no 4 An Seyoung of South Korea or Japan's Saena Kawakam.
On the other hand, former world no 1 Srikanth will face the winner of the match between Indonesia's Jonatan Christie and Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the semifinals. |
