Brace for worst ever power crisis in Jammu in coming days
Govt’s claims of round the clock electricity goes for a toss as outages become a new norm
4/8/2022 11:36:34 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 8: Even during the festive season of Navratra and Ramzan, the administration seems to be in no mood to address the pervasive power crises in Jammu with demand touching new heights amid the government’s inaction and failure on the ground.
As per the reports coming to the fore, the power crisis has started deepening in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a demand of 3100 MW of electricity every day.
In contrast, only 1937 MW could be made available in the state. In a bid to further hound the already crisis-ridden business fraternity, Orders have been issued to curtail power supplies in industrial areas in Jammu from 6 to 9 am Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur from 5 to 8 pm.
The PDD as per the reports has directed the Jammu division to ensure consumption below 870 MW and Kashmir below 1150 MW.
It is being informed that the way the temperatures have surged rapidly in the last few days, the state has consumed 400 MW more power from the northern grid. According to official sources, the consumption of 785 MW in Jammu and 1152 MW in Kashmir has been recorded on Thursday morning.
Northern Grid as per the reports is continuously giving instructions to Jammu and Kashmir to follow grid discipline to get electricity.
On social media, on the other hand, people are terming the PDD as the worst example of misadventure of the government’s PR exercise.
The government, they said, keeps beating the trumpet of ensuring development post Article 370 abrogation but the situation has only worsened. “The PDD is doing everything it can to declare the government a failure on the ground. This is the reason that such outages have become an order of the day and mismanagement is ruling the roost within the PDD,” says a netizen.
It was also being projected that such a situation in areas of Jammu is acting as an eye-opener to what development has been achieved since August 2019 in the region. “It is all hollowness and nothing else. The uninterrupted power supply is a myth being sold to hoodwink people. The reality is that the PDD is a crisis-ridden department and the worst example of mismanagement,” he said.
Such a situation has also put a question mark on the government’s claims of ensuring round-the-clock power supplies in the erstwhile state. At a time when the administration is inviting industrialists to open their units in Jammu and Kashmir, such erratic power supplies are acting as a major spoilsport in the entire process.
