BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office Organizes Sensitization Program for Officers of Jal Jeevan Mission, Jammu

Jammu, Apr 8, Bureau of Indian Standards Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized Sensitization Programme for the Jal Jeevan Mission Office, Jammu on BIS Activities & Quality Control Orders related to Jal Shakti Departments. The programme was attended by more than 50 participants from Jal Jeevan Mission Office Jammu region. Sunil Koul, Superintendent Engineer, JAl Jeevan Mission, Jammu in his welcome address gave a brief outline of the sensitization programme and highlighted the role of standardization in Jal Shakti Department to implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission Schemes.
Satyadeo Lal, Director & Head, BIS JKBO gave an overview of the working of BIS to the participants. He talked about the role of standards in Jal Jeevan Mission. He told that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and caters to the needs of end users through Conformity Assessment Schemes which are based on the quality, safety and performance parameters laid down in Indian standards. He said that ISI Mark is a mean for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products and services to the customer. Nisha Bura, Joint Director, BIS JKBO presented detailed overview of standardization with a focus on Indian standards related to civil engineering, ISI Mark Certification and Laboratory facility to support certification. She also demonstrated ‘BIS Care App’ through which information about Indian Standards, BIS licences, products under compulsory ISI mark, Laboratory facilities can be easily assessed. Through the BIS Care App, authenticity of ISI Mark on products and Hallmark on Jewellery can be checked. She also informed about various products related to Jal Jeevan Mission for which Indian Standards and BIS Licences are available which can be utilized by the department in their procurements and tenders.
The Chief Guest, Sh. Manish Kumar Bhat, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE) Department- Jammu highlighted the role of BIS in achieving the quality in Construction Projects of Government. He said that while implementing Jal Jeevan Mission related schemes at ground level, the focus should be on quality. He also emphasized that BIS should suo-moto monitor the compliance of ISI Marked products by periodic inspections and market surveillance which will increase Customers confidence on ISI Mark. The program ended with a hearty vote of thanks by the Jal Jeevan Mission Office to BIS. The program was coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion officer, BIS JKBO.
