Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 29: People’s patience in Jammu over the erratic electricity in the region is spilling over, with masses hitting the roads over the anarchic measures being taken by the administration and its utter failure to deliver basic amenities on the ground.
In scores of areas of Jammu, people are hitting the roads demanding answers from the government over why in spite of supplying them with hefty power bills; the electricity amid the scorching heat is scandalously missing in peoples’ homes. They also said that besides power, water supplies too are being denied leaving masses petrified to the core.
The protesters said, after the installation of smart meters by the electricity corporation, the bills are being given on time. Even when the electricity is nowhere existent, bills of three to five thousand rupees are being issued to otherwise crisis-ridden consumers of the PDD.
The protestors also said that People’s businesses have come to a standstill. “The officials of the department are resting in AC rooms in the offices. People’s problems are not being solved.
We warn them that if the problem is not resolved soon, the agitation will be intensified,” the protestors said.
Meanwhile, as per the reports, protests erupted in scores of areas, and during the demonstrations, the police officers kept trying to convince the people.
After this, the higher officials reached the spot and assured to solve the problem.
Then after two hours, people left the roads. The protesters kept raising slogans in the middle of the roads amid scorching heat from 12 noon to 2 pm.
Early Times has recently reported that the power crisis has started deepening in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a demand for 3100 MW of electricity every day. In contrast, only 1937 MW could be made available in the state. In a bid to further hound the already crisis-ridden business fraternity, Orders have been issued to curtail power supplies in industrial areas in Jammu from 6 to 9 am Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur from 5 to 8 pm.
The PDD as per the reports has directed the Jammu division to ensure consumption below 870 MW and Kashmir below 1150 MW. It is being informed that the way the temperatures have surged rapidly in the last few days, the state has consumed 400 MW more power from the northern grid.
At present, the demand for electricity in Jammu and Kashmir is 2800 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), while the supply is being made close to 1800 MVA.
Due to this people have to bear long power cuts. Water supply is also getting affected due to a lack of adequate power supply.
