Early Times Report

Nagrota, May 2: Residents of Khanpur in Nagrota have been left high and dry by the Jal Shakti Department as it has failed to provide water to them.
People took to the streets this morning to protest against the failure of the Jal Shakti Department to mitigate their sufferings. Naib Sarpanch of the area, Mohammad Amin while talking to a local news channel said, “We have been in touch with the Jal Shatki Department officials but they are not listening to us. If they want they can resolve the issue of Khanpur panchayat within a short span of time. Money has been sanctioned, work has also been done, but the officials are not taking any interest. People have to fetch water from the Tawi river. They drink dirty water and are struggling to survive.”
He said, “It’s unfortunate that even one day before Eid the department is not interested in providing water. If the water is not provided to us we will be left with no other option other than to block the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Eid day.”
They said, “They have installed taps and tanks in the area, they just have to switch on the valve so that people get water. They are not even sending water tankers into our area regularly.”
