KVK Poonch conducts awareness programme under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Village Mangnar

JAMMU, June 21: In the series of events under "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav", Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch working under the auspices of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) today conducting awareness programme/ Kisan gosthi at village Mangnar in which large numbers of farmers including men and women along with public representatives participated at community hall of said village.The programme was held under the able guidance of Dr. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension, of SKUAST-Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK Poonch, Dr. Ajay Gupta said that main purpose of this programmed is to aware the farming community about the balanced use of fertilizers and region specific agroforestry. The balanced use of fertilizers is essential to increase crop yields, improve quality of the produce, correct soil nutrient deficiencies, improve soil fertility, and eventually restore fertility and productivity of the land that has been degraded by wrong and exploitative activities in the past, he said. On the occasion, Dr. M.A. Guroo, of KVK Poonch interacted with farmers and awared them about the region specific agroforestry especially in hilly areas like Poonch with the purpose of increasing the crop production from the land as much as possible coupled with meeting the fodder requirements while maintaining the local biodiversity of the region. During the programme, horticultural toolkits were distributed among the farmers under the NICRA Project. The villagers thanked the KVK Poonch for conducting such a vital programme at village Mangnar and assured that farmers of the village shall take due care in preserving and restoring the fertility of the soil and maintaining local biodiversity as per the guidance received from the KVK scientists.
