Indian Army flags off victory flame run as part of Kargil Vijay Diwas

JAMMU, June 21: The Kargil Victory Flame which was kindled and flagged off from Headquarter Northern Command on 17 Jun 2022 after traversing through Udhampur, Patnitop, Dharmund and Doda arrived in Kishtwar on 20th Jun 2022. The Victory flame team was proudly received with tremendous fervour at Thatri Company Operating Base in a grand reception ceremony attended by school students, youth and locals organised by the helipad Battalion of Kishtwar This year marks the 23rd anniversary of successful culmination of Operation Vijay wherein brave soldiers of Indian Army overcame seemingly insurmountable odds, hostile terrain, weather and a determined enemy occupying dominating heights to wing Kargil.
Wreath laying ceremony was organised at Headquarter 9 Sector Rashtriya Rifles at Lach Khazana to honour the brave hearts who laid down their lives during the Operation Vijay The victory flame was thereafter taken around Kishtwar town escorted by motorcyclists, cyclists displaying a sense of pride and patriotism. In the final stretch of move, the victory flame was carried by physically disabled, youth icons, sports personnel, police, military and para military personnel.
The flame was then moved to helipad where the officials from district administration Kargil veterans, ESM and locals paid their homage. The event was graced by Brigadier Pranab Misra, Commander, 9 Sector Rashtriya Rifles and Mr Ashok Kumar Sharma, DC, Kishtwar During the event, the Kargil War Veterans / Next of Kin of the Veterans were felicitated by the Chief Guest The veterans also shared their experience of the war, facing death and life after the war.
This was followed by colourful cultural program by school and College students, Army band and display by Army Gatka Team. Speaking on the momentous occasion the chief guest said that the victory flame and journey of the eternal flame brings alive the memory of the country's brave martyrs with events covering a myriad spectrum. The objective of the event was to evoke feeling of nationalism and patriotism through this campaign especially amongst youth to pay homage to the valiant soldiers. The victory flame will cover a 400 km long journey in a span of 40 days to finally culminating at Kargil War Memorial on 26 July on solemn evening of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Through this event, army, civil administration officials and locals expressed their gratitude and thanked the brave Veterans and their family members for their sacrifices. They exhorted the next generation to draw inspiration and strive towards a bright future.
