BIS, JKBO conduct sensitisation programme

Poonch, Dec 1: To promote Quality consciousness and awareness among department heads of Poonch District, a sensitization program organized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) at Conference Hall of Dak Banglow Poonch.
The programme was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch Sh. Tahir Mustfa Malik (JKAS). DPO Poonch Sh. Khalid also attended the program along with DYSSO, XEN R&B Poonch, XEN PMGSY Poonch, DSWO Poonch, CAHO Poonch, PM DIC Poonch, AD food civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Poonch, AD Fisher Poonch, Legal Metrology Officer Poonch and other district and sectoral officers of the district. Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Atri, Joint Director BIS, JKBO gave detailed presentation on department specific standards, Standards Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking and Compulsory Registration Scheme. He demonstrated Know Your Standards portal of Manakonline through which standards can be easily located and downloaded free of cost. He also demonstrated BIS Care App through examples to check authenticity of ISI marked products and Hallmarked jewellery and complaints can also be registered. Atri highlighted various initiatives of the BIS in bringing quality products to the customers. He said that the aim and objective of the programme is to aware the Heads of Departments in District about the Quality checks of the standard products and laws to control the substandard products in the market. He also gave awareness to the gathering about ISI mark and Hallmark. It is pertinent to mention here that BIS was initially known as Indian Standard Institution and got renamed as Bureau of Indian Standards in Year 1986. ADC Poonch said during the program that such awareness programmes must be conducted at department level also. He also urged the officers to spread the awareness among masses during public outreach programs.
