Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 31: In its efforts to give a further boost to the deliverance of good governance in Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi is looking ahead to appoint new Advisors for the Union Territory soon.
Sources said the issue of the appointment of new Advisors was discussed threadbare in the national capital by some of the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janta Party who are part of the decision-making.
The sources said in the wake of inputs from Jammu and Kashmir that “one Advisor alone is not enough for effective deliverance of good governance, the matter was discussed threadbare.”
The sources said the Prime Minister’s Office was likely to hold a meeting on the issue soon to discuss the probable names and also to finalize the same. Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha is also likely to be roped in for deliberations for appointment of the new Advisor.
Sources said till now only the names of former officials, especially those who have served the Jammu and Kashmir or the AGMUT cadre in the past, have been discussed.
Sources said the performance of those, who’ve previously served as Advisors was also discussed.
A senior functionary of the Central government told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that “the matter is being actively discussed among the decision-makers” in Delhi.
It for the second time, in the last around three months, the deliberations have picked up over the issue of the appointment of the Advisors. Last time in October 2022, the matter was under consideration in Delhi. That time, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had discussed the matter after his 3-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir.
“Whereas previously the Raj Bhawan was also asked to suggest list of probable faces for the coveted post, the same list may be considered for deliberations,” said a source in the know of the matter.
At the moment the Raj Bhawan has only one Advisor whereas as the other three left, including one who got another crucial assignment.
