Jammu, Mar 9: In a new twist to law and order problem in neighbouring Punjab that has arisen following the arrest of a terrorist leader by Punjab government followed an open display & brandishing of guns during a march led by Amrit Pal Singh has now its link to Jammu and Kashmir.
The license to one of the terrorist leaders was issued by the Kishtwar District Magistrate in the year 2014, the controversial period when thousands of illegal gun licenses were issued in Jammu and Kashmir. The case is presently under investigation with India’s prime investigating agency CBI.
As per the details available with Early Times Additional Director General of Police, intelligence Punjab has written to DC Kishtwar requesting him for cancellation of the said arm license.
“It is learnt that Varinder Singh s/o Jagdish Singh R/o village Jaur Singh Wala, Patti, Tarn-Taran is having a 12 Bore weapon, license No. 79/DM/AC/Arms. The said person is associated with a Sikh hardliner organization namely “Waris Punjab De”, and often flaunting his weapon in public during the programmes of the said organization” read letter No. 459/SB-1(6), Dated 12-1-2023; the copy of which lies with Early Times.
The letter while requesting for cancellation of the arms license to Varinder Singh, Punjab police letter added that “Therefore, you are advised to cancel the license of above said person or may take necessary action as deemed fit.”
The official sources told the Early Times that the said gun license to Varinder was issued on 23-7-2014 and it was renewed on 22-7-2017 along with permission of purchasing 100 cartridges.
The sources added that Kishtwar administration is yet to receive the Punjab government letter requesting for cancellation of the license issued to the terrorist leader.
A senior official told Early Times that we will act as per law with regard to cancellation of the arms license as and when we received the official communication.
“We will surely verify the facts and will investigate into the matter which is detrimental to the peace, stability and law and order problem in the country” said the official wishing not to be named.
