Early Times Report

Jammu, May 13: Advocate Mohan Atri has filed a petition in the High Court to direct the Katra Police to investigate the death of a teenage girl, who was found hanging in a hotel at Katra on April 9, 2023.
Talking to Early Times advocate Atri said, “We have filed a petition in the High Court to seek investigation into the death of a teenage and a prayer to hand over the investigation of the case to Central Bureau of investigation (CBI).”
He said that the High Court has directed the Katra Police to file the status report.
It’s in place to mention here a teenage female staffer of a prominent hotel in Katra town was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at the staff quarter of the hotel last month.
The 18-year old girl, according to Police, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the staff quarter of the hotel.
Advocate Atri said, “Police are resorting to dilly-delay tactics and this will lead to the evidence getting destroyed.”
He said, “The hotel in question is a 5-star hotel. People running it are influential people and they own a chain of hotels. It seems the Police are delaying the investigation.”
He said, “It’s the right of the family of the deceased to seek investigation but Police are not cooperating. Police should have sealed the room where the girl was found hanging. In fact the hotel too should have been seized.”
Advocate Atri said, “Investigations have been shoddy. There were no seizures. CCTV footages has not been checked. The case has been diluted. The victim is from a poor family that’s why the case has not been handled properly.”
“Katra Police are not giving any satisfactory answers. They are not even giving details of the inquest proceedings.”
It’s in place to mention here that Basant Lal, father of the deceased teenage girl had alleged that Police were trying to hush-up murder of his daughter.
He had said that he has lost all hope to get justice due to the alleged “casual approach” of the Katra Police in this sensitive case.
“No one is ready to listen to me. I have been approaching one officer after another but to no avail, as cops are not ready to even listen to my grievance”, Lal had said.
“It is all due to my economic condition that police officers are taking the mysterious murder of my daughter casually,” he had said.
“Owner of the hotel where my daughter was serving is an influential person so the cops are trying to hush up the murder of my teenage daughter”, he had alleged.
“Due to their behaviour and inhuman attitude, I have lost faith in Katra Police”, he said.
While recalling April 8 evening, he said that he spoke to his daughter and she was happy and satisfied with her job. “On April 9, I received a call on my phone from Police Station Katra. I was informed that my daughter is critical and asked to rush to Katra immediately,” he said and regretted that when he reached Katra he was informed that his daughter has committed suicide.
“Police kept me in the dark”, he pointed out and added that cops were not even ready to record the statement of the colleagues of his deceased daughter.
