Model Academy School, JMC join hands to ban polythene

JAMMU, May 22: Model Academy School, in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), organized an engaging awareness session on the importance of banning polythene and single-use plastic. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Dr. Akshay Sharma, Corporator of Ward No. 8, D.C. North, Sanjay Badyal, and Ashwani Soodan, Pvt. Secretary to the Mayor, JMC.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by a soulful recitation of Saraswati Vandana by the school's music department. The school choir presented a melodious song dedicated to the guests and the cause. Pramod Kumar Srivastava, the Principal, addressed the gathering, providing an overview of the initiatives taken in support of the movement.
To educate the students, a documentary titled "Hazards of Plastic and the Use of Biodegradable Carry Bags" by DRDO was showcased. The documentary showcased the innovative technology employed by DRDO, such as cellulose and starch, to produce biodegradable carry bags. Additionally, JMC officials presented a documentary highlighting the adverse effects of polythene bags and the measures taken by JMC to address this issue. The students also participated in an engaging debate on the topic of "Ban on Polythene Bags," with Parushi securing the first prize, Aditya Raina receiving the second prize, and. Aahana and. Ishit Sharma sharing the third prize. The competition was judged by Pooja Mishra and Maneka Khanna, academic managers of the primary and senior wings. All the winners were awarded certificates of merit.
During the event, Dr. Akshay emphasized the importance of using only the carry bags recommended by JMC and shed light on the significant challenges posed by plastic waste in urban areas. He commended the participating students, stating that they would serve as brand ambassadors for JMC's polythene ban initiative.
Badyal, in his address, familiarized the audience with the various measures taken by JMC to combat plastic pollution. He highlighted practical and effective steps that can be implemented to reduce the use of plastic and polythene bags.
The dignitaries praised the institution for its enthusiastic participation in the polythene ban movement and expressed confidence that the school and its students would continue to actively contribute to the cause.
Dr. Adit Gupta, Director of MIER, encouraged the students to play a positive role as stakeholders by generating innovative ideas to minimize plastic usage and become ambassadors of change. He assured full support from the MIER family in the mission to eradicate the menace of polythene bags in the city.
Samta Dogra, co-convener of CCA, extended her gratitude to all the participants, guests, and organizers for making the event a resounding success. The program was beautifully compered by Shreya Sharma, the head girl of the school. The event concluded with a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem.
