Sikh organizations demand inclusion in G20 summit
5/29/2023 10:17:38 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 29: In an emergency meeting of various Sikh organizations in Jammu and Kashmir, chaired by S. Mohinder Singh, Chief Organizer of Bhai Khanaya Nishkam Seva Society J&K and Ex Member DGPC Jammu, participants expressed their concern over the exclusion of Sikh representatives from the G20 summit being held in Srinagar. The Sikh community, primarily consisting of refugees from the 1947 Indo-Pak partition and victims of the 1965 and 1971 wars between India and Pakistan, has been facing neglect from the Jammu and Kashmir UT administration and the central government. The meeting aimed to address these longstanding grievances and discuss the challenges faced by the Sikh community.
The Sikh organizations have repeatedly demanded reservations for their educated unemployed youth in government jobs, representation in recruitment boards and services selection boards, but no action has been taken so far. Although the government promised a rehabilitation amount of thirty lakh rupees per family for refugees, only five and a half lakh rupees have been provided to date, with the pending amount of twenty-four lakh and fifty thousand rupees.
The Sikh organizations called for the G20 summit to be held in Jammu and demanded the inclusion of Sikh representatives to thoroughly discuss the community's issues.
