Civil society, students join hands with Rajouri admin in fight against Drug Abuse

RAJOURI, May 29: In a collaborative effort to combat drug abuse and create a drug-free society, the District Administration of Rajouri, along with the civil society, including Himalayan Education Mission Rajouri, organized a mega anti-drug awareness programme.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 1000 students, locals, PRI and ULB members, religious/community leaders, and prominent citizens, marking a significant milestone in the collective fight against substance abuse. The chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, and the guest of honour, Senior Superintendent of Police Amrit Pal Singh, graced the occasion. The programme featured enlightening lectures by esteemed ward councillors, senior citizens, media persons, religious leaders, and social activists, aiming to educate and inspire the youth to reject drugs and embrace a healthy and positive lifestyle.
The event also included the launch of a compelling signature campaign and a powerful rally, symbolizing the commitment to building a drug-free society.
Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal delivered a passionate keynote address, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the challenges posed by drugs. He emphasized the detrimental effects of drug abuse on both physical and mental health and reiterated the district administration's dedication to eradicating this menace. Kundal shared information about various programs and initiatives designed to raise awareness and support individuals struggling with addiction, including the Advanced Treatment Facility (ATF) and Drug De-addiction Centre in Rajouri. He also announced plans to establish ward/city/panchayat-wise Anti-drugs committees to actively combat the drug problem at the grassroots level. SSP Amrit Pal Singh expressed his wholehearted support for the Anti-Drugs Awareness Drive, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community. He assured the audience of the police force's commitment to apprehending drug peddlers and ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
