Early Times Report

Udhampur, Oct 19: Udhampur Police, in its relentless campaign against drug abuse, has apprehended a drug peddler and seized 6.04 grams of a contraband substance resembling heroin from his possession in Tikri.
A police team from the Rehambal Police Station, under the leadership of Inspector Pushpinder Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Rehambal Police Station, and assisted by Sub-Inspector Satish Katil, In-Charge Police Post Tikri, conducted this operation.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Mr. Anwaar Ul Haq, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters, Udhampur, Mr. Gurmeet Singh.
During a routine checkpoint operation at the Tikri checkpoint for vehicle and pedestrian inspections, a Ford Fusion car with registration number JK01J 5464 was signaled to stop.
However, the driver attempted to flee the scene. The police team skillfully prevented the escape and proceeded to conduct a comprehensive search.
The search led to the discovery of 6.04 grams of a substance closely resembling contraband heroin in the possession of the driver, identified as Amir Sheikh, the son of Mohd. Yousuf Sheikh, and a resident of Pulwama.
Amir Sheikh was promptly arrested at the scene.
A case, registered as FIR No. 269/2023 under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has been initiated at the Rehambal Police Station, and the investigation is now underway.
This operation represents another significant step in Udhampur Police’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes and protect the community from the perils of drug abuse.
