Vice Chancellor’s Badminton Tournament 2023” Promotes Health and Sports at SKUAST-Jammu

Jammu, Oct 19: As part of the ongoing celebration of the ‘Fit India Movement’ and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a ‘Vice Chancellor’s Badminton Tournament 2023’ was organized by the Dean of Student Welfare at SKUAST-Jammu under the guidance of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi. The tournament took place at the sports complex of SKUAST-Jammu from October 17th to October 19th, 2023, with around 150 participants competing in various events. In the student category, the girls’ singles title was secured by Liza, with Itakshi as the runner-up. In the doubles event for girls, Liza and Fiza Kazmi clinched the title, and Damini and Parvi were the runners-up. In the boys’ category, Hansraj Yadav won the singles title, with Gurtez Singh as the runner-up. In the doubles event for boys, the pair of Hansraj Yadav and Priyatam secured the title, and Sourabh and Akshit were the runners-up.
Among the faculty members, Dr. Sushmita won the singles title for women, with Anshita as the runner-up. In the men’s category, the pair of Dr. Akhil and Dr. Susheel claimed the doubles title, while Dr. P.K. Rai and Dr. Puneet Choudhary were the runners-up. Dr. Susheel Sharma emerged as the winner of the men’s singles title.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare, welcomed the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who graced the event as the chief guest.
He expressed gratitude to the university authorities for their support in organizing the tournament.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor commended the efforts of the Dean of Student Welfare and encouraged all participants to engage in such sporting events to maintain their fitness and well-being.
The organizing committee for the event consisted of several university faculty members and students. The tournament concluded with a vote of thanks by the Dean of Student Welfare and the distribution of snacks to the participants.
