At minus 5.3 C, Srinagar records season’s coldest night

Srinagar, Dec 13: Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season, with temperature plunges to -5.3C on Wednesday as intense cold sweeps the Kashmir valley.
Srinagar experienced the season's coldest night at -5.3C on Wednesday, compared to the -1.5C recorded the previous night. It was -4.3C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season, the meteorological office said.
Srinagar had earlier recorded the season's coldest night at -4.8C on December 11 this year.
The maximum temperature recorded at Srinagar was 2.5C above the normal of 9.5C recorded on the previous day.
The minimum temperature at Gulmarg dipped to -5.5C on Wednesday up from the -3.5C recorded a day ago. It was 1.3C below normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir.
Pahalgam had a low of -5.3C against the -1.5C recorded the previous night. It was 1.5C below normal for the south Kashmir tourist hot spot.
The mercury at Kupwara plummeted to -3.7C against -2.4C recorded the previous night. It was 2.0C below normal for the frontier north Kashmir district, the MeT office said.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of -3.2C against the 2.6C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag had a low of -2.1C against the 2.3C recorded a day ago.
MeT office forecast weather is likely to remain clear at most places today and mainly dry till December 15.
A Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit on December 16.17 and can cause light snowfall over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather will mainly remain dry from December 18.22, with dry and cold conditions likely to continue over most places in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shallow to moderate fog will also hunt at many places in the Kashmir division during the period.
