NSS volunteers of GDC RS Pura organize plantation drive

RS PURA, Feb 8: In a remarkable initiative to promote environmental conservation, the NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), R.S. Pura, organized a plantation drive on the second day of their Special Winter Camp. The event was held under the esteemed guidance of the college's Principal, Prof. (Dr) Preetpal Kour, with an aim to enhance green cover and spread awareness about environmental sustainability among students and the local community.
The plantation drive was conducted under the leadership of NSS Program Officer, Dr. Chanchal Angral, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. Volunteers planted a diverse range of saplings along the college garden and surrounding areas, reinforcing the institution's commitment to ecological balance and sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr) Preetpal Kour highlighted the importance of such environmental initiatives, stating, "This plantation drive not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our campus but also plays a crucial role in combating climate change and preserving our natural resources."
In addition to the plantation activity, a brief awareness session was held to educate students on the significance of tree planting and sustainable environmental practices. The session emphasized the positive impacts of trees on air quality, soil health, and biodiversity, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental conservation among participants.
Dr. Chanchal Angral, NSS Program Officer, appreciated the dedication and active involvement of the NSS volunteers. "Participation in environmental activities like this plantation drive is essential for the holistic development of students, shaping them into responsible and environmentally conscious citizens," he remarked.
The event was graced by the presence of NSS committee members, including Prof. Akriti Parihar, Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, and Dr. Savleen Kour. Senior faculty members, Dr. Neena Gupta and Prof. Shifali Abrol, were also in attendance, extending their support to the initiative.
The plantation drive stands as a testament to GDC R.S. Pura's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, inspiring students to actively contribute towards a greener and healthier future.
