Omar mocks Cong after BJP’s historic win
2/8/2025 10:53:05 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 8: Exactly a month after questioning the lack of clarity in the leadership of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today mocked the Congress after BJP achieved a historic victory in Delhi Assembly elections.
Although Omar Abdullah attacked opposition parties for fighting against each other in the Delhi Assembly elections, he seized this opportunity to taunt the Congress for its failure to get even a single seat in the Delhi Assembly polls in the third successive election.
As votes were being counted for the 70-member Delhi Assembly elections, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took a swipe at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress for contesting against each other in the closely watched polls.
With the BJP securing a majority in Delhi, Abdullah seized the moment to criticize the opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), accusing its members of arrogance and inflexibility. Sharing a post from a digital platform on X, which quoted political analyst Manisha Priyam suggesting that Congress was cutting into AAP’s vote share, Abdullah sarcastically remarked, “Aur Lado Aapas Mein” (Keep fighting among yourselves!).
Notably, the INDIA bloc partners fielded candidates against each other in Delhi. While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) openly backed AAP, Congress—the key constituent of the alliance—contested independently. Despite not leading in any seat, Congress's presence is believed to have contributed to the defeat of AAP’s top leadership.
Throughout the Delhi election campaign, Omar Abdullah voiced concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the INDIA bloc’s objectives. He questioned whether the alliance was meant solely for the Lok Sabha elections or if it extended to state polls as well.
“There is no clarity on the agenda, programme, or leadership of the INDIA alliance,” Abdullah remarked, highlighting that no formal meeting had been held post-Lok Sabha elections to discuss these issues. He urged the alliance leadership to convene and resolve the uncertainty regarding its future.
Abdullah suggested that if the alliance was intended only for parliamentary elections, it should disband after fulfilling its purpose. However, if it aims to contest assembly polls, its members must coordinate their strategies and work together.
Formed to present a united front against the BJP, the INDIA bloc now faces questions about its long-term vision. Omar Abdullah stressed the need for a clear and unified strategy, asserting that opposition parties must move beyond ambiguity and work cohesively if they truly intend to challenge the ruling party.
He urged opposition leaders to engage in discussions that would define the alliance’s direction, ensuring better coordination and cooperation in both parliamentary and state elections.
