Udhampur hosts Resham Kissan Mela

UDHAMPUR, Feb 8: Director Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat along with Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai inaugurated a one-day Resham Kissan Mela here today.
The event was aimed at promoting sericulture techniques and creating awareness among farmers about various government schemes. More than 200 farmers from six districts of Jammu Division actively participated in the mela.
Additional Director Sericulture Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, District Sericulture Officers from six districts of Jammu Division, Scientist from Central Silk board and a large number of farmers from different districts attended the festival.
After the inauguration, the Director Sericulture and DC Udhampur inspected stalls set up by the Sericulture Department to generate awareness about government initiatives in the sector. They interacted with officers and beneficiaries, reviewing the on-ground implementation of various sericulture schemes.
The stalls highlighted different schemes and products related to sericulture, encouraging farmers to explore government support for silk production.
Earlier, the program commenced with the singing of the National Anthem and lighting of the traditional lamp and Saraswati Vandana.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner lauded Sericulture Department for organizing such awareness programs. She urged farmers to take advantage of the government schemes, including the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, designed to enhance their socio-economic status.
While addressing the gathering, Director Sericulture expressed gratitude to all officers and farmers for making the event a success. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting silk farmers and urged them to increase silk production. He highlighted that the department’s focus is to reach out to farmers, educate them about government schemes like HADP and provide them with necessary guidance and technical support.
The Director encouraged the officers to actively engage with farmers, sensitize them about the available schemes and guide them in adopting best practices in sericulture. He assured the farming community of the department full support, including technical guidance in Silkworm Rearing, Reeling, and Weaving.
Later, the Director Sericulture launched a short documentary on sericulture to further educate farmers about the opportunities in the sector.
The progressive farmers and silkworm rearers were also felicitated in recognition of their contributions to silk farming.
