MeT predicts snowfall across J&K

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar on Monday predicted light to moderate rain and snow at many places during February 19 and 20 across Jammu and Kashmir.
The MeT office said “there is nothing significant till February 18”.
It said on February 19 and 20 the weather will remain general cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at many places. The precipitation is very likely to start during the late afternoon of Wednesday till the evening of Thursday.
The plains of Kashmir and Jammu may receive light to moderate rain/thunder with gusty winds at a few places.
Higher reaches of Chenab Valley and South Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall of 6 to 10 inches while higher reaches of north and central Kashmir may receive 4 to 8 inches, the MeT office said.
The day temperature has risen by 2 to 4 C in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir with highest temperature observed over Jammu at 24.9 C and at Katra 23.6 C while in Kashmir valley Srinagar had a maximum of 18.2 C and Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded at 17.4 C.
The night temperature witnessed a fell by 0 to 1 C over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir with the highest minimum temperature recorded at Jammu 10.2 C , Katra 9.6 C in Jammu Division while in Kashmir valley night temperature rose and recorded at 2.1 C in Srinagar and Qazigund -0.2 C during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
The famed ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received 0.6mm of rainfall while the frontier district of Kupwara received 5.3 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
