Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 17: The upcoming Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, scheduled to begin on March 3, is expected to be stormy after Peoples Conference (PC) legislator Sajad Gani Lone submitted a resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35-A.
Lone, the lone Peoples Conference MLA in the 90-member House and legislator from Handwara, has called for a debate on the issue. Sources confirmed that the resolution has been officially submitted, and its acknowledgment by the Assembly could lead to heated discussions.
The move has already sparked political tensions, with the opposition BJP strongly opposing any such resolution. BJP spokesperson Sunil Sethi on Monday termed the move “unconstitutional,” asserting that “the J&K Assembly is not bigger than Par

The latest development comes after the first session of the present Assembly witnessed unprecedented pandemonium when Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved a similar resolution.
Sources said that the BJP has decided to oppose any move in the Assembly vociferously as the party has 28 members in the House.
Meanwhile, the PDP is also reportedly considering submitting a resolution on the same issue during the budget session. While the NC passed a resolution in its first cabinet meeting advocating for the restoration of statehood, it remained silent on Article 370—despite using the issue as a key election slogan.
With contentious resolutions likely to dominate discussions, the upcoming Assembly session is expected to be marked by intense political confrontations and disruptions.
