Millions of people use paper bags every day. World Paper Bag Day is celebrated annually on July 12th. This day is dedicated to promoting the use of paper bags as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. It highlights the environmental benefits of paper bags, emphasizing their biodegradability and potential for recycling.
This day was launched by “The Paper Bag” platform in 2018. The history of paper bags can be traced back to the 19th century. In 1852, Francis Wolle invented the first paper bag machine. He then received a patent for the machine and paper bags became the talk of the town. Paper bags are an amazing invention that has helped to combat the problems arising from plastic pollution. In recent years, the world has become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint. One simple yet effective way to contribute to this effort is by using paper bags instead of plastic bags. Paper bags offer numerous benefits, making them a popular choice for eco-conscious individuals and businesses.
Paper bags are often positioned as a more environmentally friendly option compared to plastic bags. Paper bags are also often sturdier than plastic, capable of carrying heavier items, and offer a good surface for branding and customization. Reusing a bag rather than purchasing a new one has a positive impact on the environment. It conserves natural resources that would otherwise be utilised in the production of a new bag. The day reminds us to be mindful of our consumption habits and seek eco-friendly solutions in all areas, not just shopping bags. According to The World Counts, an estimated 100 million tonnes of plastic are used every year. This is a problematic number because plastic pollution is a major environmental issue. Plastic can take hundreds of years to break down in landfills, and it significantly harms wildlife.
There are lot many benefits of using Paper bags and it offers excellent surface area for printing logos, brand messaging, and other designs, making them useful for marketing and promotion. It can be reused multiple times, extending their lifespan and further reducing their environmental impact. Paper bags are easy to carry and can be used for a wide variety of purposes, from shopping to food delivery. Paper bags are made from renewable resources like trees, which can be replanted and harvested sustainably. Paper bags are less likely to contribute to litter and pollution in oceans and waterways. The environmental symbols created by the Paper Bag help companies demonstrate their environmental responsibility, promote the sustainability credentials of paper bags and share them with consumers. According to a new study, the long and strong fibres within the paper bags also make them a good source for recycling and through local waste streams, paper-based packaging can be recycled more than 25 times.
Using paper bags is a simple yet effective way to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainability. With their biodegradable nature, renewable resources, and practical benefits, paper bags are an excellent alternative to plastic bags. By choosing paper bags, we can contribute to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future.
